Since 2008, Lucky Bird Pictures has been creating films and series for cinema and television with passion, a love for storytelling, and deep respect for our creative partners. At the core of our work is the concept, the story, or the “format”. For this reason, alongside directors, writers play a central role for us. Lucky Bird serves as both a partner and, at times, even a home to acclaimed authors such as Henning Mankell (Der Chinese), Cornelia Funke (Ghosthunters: On Icy Trails), Fred and Léonie Breinersdorfer (13 Minutes), and Holger Karsten Schmidt (The Mission).

 

As a German production company, we approach development, production, and distribution with an international perspective. Our hallmark is a wealth of experience in international co-productions and a curiosity for stories and partnerships beyond borders. Lucky Bird's TV and film productions are successfully distributed worldwide, showing in the UK, Canada, and the USA across cinema, television, and home entertainment platforms.

 

Since 2012, Oliver Schündler has been the sole shareholder of Lucky Bird Pictures, originally established as a German-Scandinavian venture with the Swedish Yellow Bird Group (Mankells Wallander, Stieg Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy).

In 2018, Lucky Bird made its mark in early evening programming with the successful series Watzmann Ermittelt for ARD.

In 2015, producers Boris Ausserer and Oliver Schündler were honored with the Bavarian Film Award for Best Film for 13 Minutes, which also received seven Lola nominations.

In 2023, our feature film - Blind at Heart - was nominated for Best Film.
